Obituary for John D. “Johnny” Herrington John D. “Johnny” Herrington Springhill, LA Funeral services for Mr. John D. “Johnny” Herrington, age 88, will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Springhill United Methodist Church, Springhill, LA where he was a faithful member, with Dr. Rev. Jonathan King and Dr. Charles Payne officiating. Interment will be held in the Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill, LA Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2018 at the Methodist Church.
Mr. Herrington, a native of Bastrop, LA was born on February 2, 1930 to Eron and Susie Mae Fillingame Herrington and passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at his home in Springhill. He was a longtime resident of this area and was instrumental in bringing businesses and making improvements in many areas of the City of Springhill throughout his years of service to the City. He had served as a councilman for five years and served as Mayor of the City of Springhill for 20 years during which the CAC Theater was built and several musical groups performed there.
He owned and operated a music theater in Branson, MO for several years. He was a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #348 FandAM; a member of the El Karuba Shriners of Shreveport and served on the Webster Parish Industrial Board. He also served on the Council of Aging and was the founder, owner and operator of Herrington Vendors.
Mr. Herrington retired in 2008 but remained very active in the civic and community activities of Springhill and this area. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Gayle Emanuel and husband, Mickey of Rusk, TX; sons, John D. “Donnie” Herrington and wife, Cody of Emerson, AR; Ricky Lane Herrington and wife, Sheri of Springhill, LA; grandchildren, Tres Herrington, Jennifer O’Glee and husband, Kyle, Cloud Herrington, Madison Herrington, Lyle Emanuel and wife, Mary, and Morgan Hassan and husband, Kamran; great-grandchildren Chandler, McKenzie, Keaton, Isaiah, Ian, Baylee, Gracy, Katy, Hadlee, Lillie, Trevor, Gaige and Penelope Lane; sister, Eloise Boucher of Springhill, LA; brother, Alfas Herrington of Camden AR; and Ethel Bradford, a devoted and loving friend of 26 years. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Bobye Herrington, and sister, Elaine Lynd. Serving as pallbearers will be Denny McMullan, Will Lynd, Butch Lynd, Ray Huddleston, Rus Green and Robert Hilburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Manuel, Mac Pace and Ronnie Hennigan.
