Obituary for Talmadge Fulton Dennis Talmadge Fulton Dennis Cotton Valley, LA Talmadge Fulton Dennis of Cotton Valley, Louisiana, fought a good fight, kept the faith, and finished the race on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. He was born to the late John A. Dennis and Addie Mae McCollum Dennis, January 24th, 1930, in Shongaloo, Louisiana. Talmadge graduated from Cotton Valley High School in 1947.

He was married to Betty Jones Dennis on December 26, 1951 and they started their life together in the state of Washington until they relocated to Cotton Valley, Louisiana, after his Honorable Discharge from the Army. Dennis was employed by Hunt Oil Company for 37 years; he owned and operated Dennis Oil and Rental for 30 years, retiring at the age of 84. He was referred to as “Mr. Parade” in his retirement article in the Paysand Magazine.

In addition to being a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War, Talmadge was of the Christian Faith and a Believer in Jesus Christ, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Cotton Valley Lodge FandM 335, CVHS Booster Club, President of the Cotton Valley Riding Club, and a member of the Cotton Valley Hunting Club. Dennis had a love for sports especially baseball. He was a catcher for the Shreveport Sports as well as Couchwood’s semi-pro team in the 1950s and early 1960s.

The Couchwood team won the 1960 North Louisiana Championship. Those that knew Talmadge knew him to be family-oriented, warmhearted, straightforward, honest, friendly, frugal, and hardworking. Talmadge was passionate about his family.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Betty Jones Dennis; two sons, Gary Fulton Dennis (Wife, Candy) of Cotton Valley, Louisiana; Gregory Alan Dennis (Wife, Betty) of McGehee, Arkansas; and daughter Sharon Kay Dennis of Fort Meade, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren: John A. Dennis (Wife, Melanie); Sandy Dennis Austin (Husband, Gregg); Dustin R. Burke; Megan Burke Zahara, (Husband, Matthew); Bradley Chase Dennis. He is survived by 11 Great Grandchildren: Aubry Dennis, Wesley Dennis, Cole Austin, Case Austin, Caden Austin, Caitlyn Burke, Emma Burke, Madeline Burke, Colten Zahara, Clay Zahara, and Chance Zahara; Nieces and Nephews: Ronald Mitchell, Karen Mitchell Haynes, Verna Mae Allen, Marvin Dennis, and Terri Dennis.

Special friend of the family; Wendy Day Blood, special pet; Sassy. He was” preceded in death by his parents, John and Addie Dennis; his siblings, Johnny Mae Dennis, Vivian Dennis Mitchell, Auther Dennis, Celestine Wallace Jones; grandson, Chad Titus Dennis; nephew, Dennis Wallace; and special pet, Stubby. John Dennis, Gregg Austin, Dustin Burke, Matthew Zahara, Bradley Chase Dennis, Marvin Dennis, Aubry Dennis, and Wesley Dennis will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Unity Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. The service will be immediately after the visitation at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held at Cotton Valley Cemetery in Cotton Valley, Louisiana.
