John David Pigg, 75, of Cleveland, TN passed away on October 13, 2018. He was born March 2, 1943 to Rev. John W. Pigg and Gladys Griffith Pigg.
He attended Bradley County High School and Lee College, where he studied engineering. He played basketball for Lee College and also served in the Army Reserves. He eventually returned to Cleveland, TN and retired. He faithfully served in his church as a deacon and in many other capacities. He enjoyed attending sporting events, watching Tennessee football and basketball games, playing golf, deep sea fishing and refereeing youth basketball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Gladys Griffith Pigg; his wife of nearly 46 years, June Carolyn Franks Pigg; brother-in-law, James Hughes; nephew, Chuck Pigg; and niece, Amy Griffey Pigg. He leaves behind his son, David Pigg (Debbie); daughter, Shanin Peterson (Dudley); sister, Sarah Hughes; brothers: Charles Pigg (Brenda) and Steve Pigg (Brenda); sister-in-law, Linda Stephens (Kenneth); three grandchildren: Audrey Wyatt (Barret), Emily Cribb (Mitchell), and Rachel Peterson; three step-grandchildren, Christopher Bradford, Bobby Bradford and Ryan Hill; four great-grandchildren: Shane Peterson, Tenley Wyatt, Sadie Wyatt and Emerson Cribb; nephews: Kevin Stephens (Tammie), Mike Pigg (Donida), and Scott Pigg; nieces: Alicia Hughes, Cotrina Horner (David), and Jill Rymer (John); great nephews: Jonathon Pigg (Mason), Matthew Pigg, Dakota Ware and Taylor McIntyre; great nieces, Whitney Hall and Torrie McIntyre; two great-great nephews; and two great-great nieces; as well as several cousins. John is also survived by his long-time girlfriend, Phyllis Newton.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Waterville Baptist Church located at 4555 Dalton Pike in Cleveland, TN. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Colby Goins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The graveside service will be concluded with military honors.
