OBITUARY John F. Mahoney January 29, 1926 – September 3, 2018 John F. Mahoney, 92 of Scituate, MA, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 3, 2018. Born in Shrone, Glengarriff, County Cork, Ireland – arrived in Medford, MA at the age of 22 to his dear aunt Elizabeth McDermott of Medford, MA. John is a former longtime resident of Sommerville and Arlington, MA.

Beloved husband of the late Joan M. Daly, father of Gerard F. Mahoney, Marianne J. Mahoney, the late Eileen M. Mahoney, granddaughters Kaylee M. Mahoney, and Jaime L. Mahoney and her husband Douglas Herman and great-grandsons Magnus and Duncan. Brother to the late Rosemary Collins of Galway, Paudie Mahoney of Glengarriff, Ireland, and the late Daniel J. Mahoney of Brighton. John is also survived by his extended family of brothers and sisters of the Shea and Lenihan families of Brighton and the surrounding Boston area, as well as his many loving nieces, nephews and their families in Ireland and Boston.

Retired from the New England Telephone Company in 1983, John started as an installer out of the Arlington Garage and became the Financial Secretary of Local 2222 IBEW for 26 years. John is a Life Member of the Knights and Ladies of Saint Finbarr, the County Corkman’s Association, Telephone Pioneers President’s Circle and the Knights of Columbus. Visiting hours are at Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, Scituate on Friday, September 7th from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass on Saturday, September 8th at 10 a.m. from St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St, Scituate, MA.
