Passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at his home. Age 87 years. The son of the late John and Elona (Yadrnyak) Martinak, John was born August 10, 1931 in Saginaw, Michigan.

He married Helen Marie Casterano on September 17, 1955. She predeceased him June 29, 2001. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the Marine Corps League.

He was employed at C&O Railroad for many years until his retirement. Surviving are one son, Mark Martinak and Barbara Jones, Carnegie, Pennsylvania; a grandson, Michael and Lisa Martinak, Bridgman, Michigan; two grandchildren, Kaylin and Elowyn; a sister, Mary Paulus; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, and by one brother and one sister, Francis Martinak and Rose Shafftall.

Honoring Mr. Martinak’s wishes, cremation has taken place and his cremains will be interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the spring. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of John F. Martinak please visit our Sympathy Store.
