Obituary for John J. Stack John Stack, 86, of King, formerly of Stevens Point, joined family, friends, and 28 Labrador Retrievers on Monday, September 17th, 2018. Born in Duluth, Minnesota, he was a natural outdoorsman. After reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, he graduated from Cathedral Catholic High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1949.

Serving during the Korean War, John worked as a radio operator while stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. John was honorably discharged from the Air Force 11/1/1952 and then went into the United States Coast Guard for a time and was honorably discharged July 2,1953. After completion of service, he joined the Great Northern Railroad as a land surveyor.

He met the love of his life, Joann, at the suggestion of his sister who arranged a date. The two married in Duluth before moving to Stevens Point, Wisconsin with five children in tow. It was there they spent the next 50 years.

As owner of Prais Religious Inc. in Stevens Point, he provided exemplary ecclesiastical service to churches and customers across Central Wisconsin. After that, he began a long and successful career in auto sales at Courtesy Honda in Stevens Point. In retirement, he founded Home Pet Care-a business dedicated to providing in-home pet services in the Stevens Point area.

His passions included hunting, especially with his sons. He also had a talent for training Labrador Retrievers for field trials. John was a trout fisherman and also enjoyed hunting upland birds, waterfowl and whitetail deer.

He never met a winter too cold and was a master of every form of outdoor gear. His collection of vintage snowshoes was something to behold. John loved to fly and became an accomplished commercial pilot.

He was a member of the Stevens Point Pilots Association, a lifelong member of the Central County Flyers Association in Iola, Wisconsin, and a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol. He also enjoyed doing volunteer work at the EAA Fly-in. He is survived by his wife Joann, sons John (Kim), William, and daughters Suzanne (Danny), Annette (Jeff), and Jennifer (Jeffrey).

John had nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his siblings, Barb Gleeson and James Stack. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at Wisconsin Veterans Home-Main Chapel, King, WI at 11 AM on Friday, September 21st, 2018, with Sister Martha Mafurutu, officiating.

Interment will be held at Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 10 AM until the time of the service at the Main Chapel. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
