Obituary for John Jacob Auer Harlingen – John Jacob Auer, 83, was a Buckeye. Born in Mansfield Ohio, on November, 3, 1934, John graduated Mansfield Senior High School and attended THE Ohio State University where he played halfback for Woody Hayes. It was there that he met his future wife Beverly Auer.

After serving in Marines, he married Beverly Hall in 1957. They lived in Mansfield, Ohio where they raised five willful children. John worked at General Motors as a supervisor for 30 years.

When he was not working or watching his children play sports, John and Bev loved to spend time on their boat on Lake Erie. He was a member of the ski patrol on Mount Mansfield where all the Auers spent their spare winter moments on the slopes. After he retired, John and Bev moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where he worked as a greeter at the ski area.

John loved people and was a natural in his cowboy hat making people feel welcomed. When the winters and their ranch become too much to handle, John and Bev moved to Harlingen, Texas to live with their daughter Melody (Bodi). Bodi provided care and companionship for her parents as they enjoyed the warmer climate of Harlingen.

John was predeceased by his wife Bev of 57 years. He is survived by his five children, Melody, Rick, Andy, Ellen and Kelly; his sister Carole; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be held at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel today, Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5:00pm-9:00pm.

Chapel services will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Rudy Garza Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Ashland Memorial Park.
