YOUNGSTOWN – John “Johnny” Basich, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018. Johnny was born February 16, 1930 to Ruth and Nicholas Basich. He followed in the footsteps of his father and worked at Republic Steel in Youngstown.

Johnny was drafted into the military and spent two years in the Army in Korea as a Guard during the Korean War. After the war, Johnny left Youngstown for a time and worked in a Pipe Mill in Houston, Texas and was very glad to return back home to Youngstown. Johnny was a kind and generous man, and had a smile for everyone he met, his contagious smile and positive attitude will be deeply missed.

He loved to take a ride early each morning to go out for breakfast and then visit friends. Johnny leaves to cherish his memory a family of friends at Paisley House, his nephew, Chuck, and forever friends, Vickie and Debbie. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Chuck, and a sister, Kay.

There will be no calling hours, but there will be a memorial service celebrated by Fr. Joseph Rudjak at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31 at the Paisley House, 1408 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, 44509, to honor our Johnny. The family will forever be grateful to the staff at Paisley House for their incredible kindness.
