John M. Johnston Jr. September 07, 1929 – March 05, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card There will be services held at 11 AM on Saturday March 9, 2019 at New Life Lutheran Church for John M. Johnston Jr. age 89, of Brookfield who passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday March 5, 2019 at Liberty Health Care Center. John was born September 7, 1929 in Struthers, Ohio a son of John M. Sr. & Nora E. Parson Johnston and was a resident of Coitsville Township for over 50 years. He was a 1948 graduate of Fitch High School and attended Youngstown College.

John was a machine operator for McKenzie Muffler, J & L Steel and retired from Roche Biomedical Laboratories. He was a member of New Life Lutheran Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served overseas in the Korean War as a gunner in the 1st Armored Division. He enjoyed traveling across the United States and taking day trips in his younger years with the love of his life, Shirley by his side.

He also enjoyed playing cards and creating unique wood working pieces. John will be greatly missed by his family for his dedication, his kindness and loving heart. John is survived by his wife of 63 years the former Shirley G. Neubecker whom he married August 20, 1955; his son Ken (Monica) Johnston of Lowellville, and his daughter Lynn (Tom) Allison of Champion, his grandchildren Jacky (Chad) Treharne of Boardman, Kim (Jack) Kline of Hubbard, Jessica (Andrew) Fisher of Columbus, Billy Matyas of Champion, and great-grandchildren Kenny, Logan, Allyson, Carson, Milania, Aviana, and Jack.

He also leaves his nephew Stacy (Kristin) Neubecker of New Castle, and a sister-in-law Rita Johnston of Austintown and numerous nieces and nephews and his dog Bella. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bill Johnston, sisters Jean Brenner and Louise Conn, as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. There will be calling hours on Friday March 8, 2019 from 5-7 PM at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home and Saturday March 9, 2019 prior to the service from 10-11 AM at New Life Lutheran Church.

John will be laid to rest at Jackson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street Youngstown, Ohio 44512. Family and friends are invited to visit the funeral home’s website at www.
