Luthern Sr., age 85, known as “Satch”, formerly of Hubbard who passed away on Sunday May 26, 2019 at O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home in Masury. John was born November 26, 1933 a son of Stephen & Mary Smith Lutheran. He was a 1951 graduate of Hubbard High School and was a standout pitcher for the baseball team.

John had worked his way through the minor league and had signed with the Cleveland Indians but was unable to further that career due to an injury he sustained while serving in the military. John was a letter carrier for United States Post Office in Hubbard for 30 years. He was a veteran of U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and a member of Hubbard VFW Post 3767.

He will be sadly missed by his family; his son Stephen T. (Rebecca) Luthern of Poland, his daughter Lynn K. (Frederic Joyce) Luthern of Utica, New York, 7 grandchildren and one great-grandson Ezra Allen. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons John J. Luthern Jr., and Michael C. Luthern and granddaughter Veronica Luthern. There will be calling hours prior to the service on Wednesday May 29, 2019 from 10-11 AM at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home.

John will be laid to rest at Hubbard Union Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visit the funeral home’s website at www. stewart-kyle.com to share memories and condolences.
