John Kerr, age 87, of rural Bellefontaine, Ohio passed away Friday evening September 28, 2018, on his birthday after a short illness. He was born in Union Township Logan County Ohio September 28, 1931, to the late Harley Wilson Kerr and Clara Christina (Kuntzman) Kerr. John married Shirley Evelyn Ward August 25, 1950 at the Stony Creek Church in DeGraff, Ohio and she preceded him in death April 7, 2017.

John was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Kerr and siblings James L. Kerr, Martha (Kerr) Robison and Francis (Kerr) Linthicum. John is survived children John (Carol) Kerr Jr. of Villa Hills, Kentucky, Jerry (Lynn) Kerr of Whitehouse, Ohio and Ted (Sherry) Kerr of Bellefontaine; two beloved grandchildren, Crystal and Rowan; sibling Richard Kerr of DeGraff and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a 1949 graduate of DeGraff High School.

After graduation John worked for Tanger & Sons Custom Farming as a farm equipment operator and meat cutter until 1958 when he started a thirty seven year career at Detroit Aluminum & Brass/Glacier Vandervell in Bellefontaine, retiring in 1995. A life-long farmer, John derived great satisfaction from well-tilled fields. He actively farmed until the last few years.

John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved a long list of dogs and cats throughout his life. He was a Life-Member of the American Trapshooting Association, an accomplished trap shooter and served as a Director on the Ohio State Trapshooting Board 1982-1986.

His contributions as a Director to the Logan County Fish & Game’s conservation, trapshooting, and rifle shooting programs were recognized by a Life Membership Award in 1976. Visitation will be held at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home in DeGraff from 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, October 3, 2018. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 4, 2018, at 10 A.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the funeral service at the Greenwood-Union Cemetery. Donations may be made to: Logan County Cancer Society % Mary Rutan Hospital 205 Palmer Ave.
