Obituary for John M. Mack John M. Mack, 96, passed away on December 10, 2018, in the comfort of his own home, with his family by his side. He was born on May 22, 1922, in Deerfield, the son of the late John A. and Mary (Pleban) Mack. John attended Deerfield schools.
He served as a Private First Class in the U. S. Army from 1943 until his honorable discharge on December 25, 1945. John was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal, proudly working with small artillery. On August 30, 1947, John married Victoria Nowak in Holy Trinity Church.
They shared a blessed union of 59 years prior to her passing on January 9, 2007. He was employed at the West End Brewery from 1947-1981 without missing a day’s work. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a man of solid values and his family always came first. John was a hardworking independent man. He was an avid gardener.
John never gave up the good fight, even in his final days. John is survived by his children, Marilyn (Ted) Zalewski, Utica, Jacquelyn (Bill Ross) Appler, Westmoreland, Carolyn Mack, Clinton and Gwendolyn (Glenn) Mucica, Little Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer, John, Jeffrey, Kristine (Adam), Kevin (Emily DeSalvatore), Mckenzie, Amy, Emily (Paul) and Andy; great-grandchildren, Jagger and Jemma; siblings, Theresa (Calvin) Anacher, Deerfield, Sally (Edward) Kuta, New York Mills, Carol Barns, CT and Catherine Mack, Deerfield. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by sisters, Bea Nebush and Anna Kochan and brothers, Harry and Edmund Mack. In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church.
The family will receive guests after Mass. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in John’s name may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.at www.
hospicecareinc.org/donate or the American Heart Association at www. heart.org. Envelopes will be available at the Mass.
