John Roderick MacDonald 79 passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday February 17th 2019. He was born on February 11, 1940, a son of John and Theresa (Hicks) MacDonald. John grew up in Portland Maine and attended Portland High School where he was an avid sports enthusiast and baseball player.

Upon graduation John enlisted and served in the US Army. After his service, John returned home and married his wife Jean Sargent. They made their home in Old Orchard Beach.

John was employed by the United States Post office for 27 years, retiring in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Ronda Willmott of Old Orchard Beach, grandson James Willmott of Old Orchard Beach, his son Roderick MacDonald and wife Ann MacDonald of Old Orchard Beach, Grandson Heath Morrison and wife Marissa Morrison, their sons Hunter and Julian of Old Orchard Beach, a sister Patricia Beaumier of Westbrook and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by is beloved wife Jean (Sargent) MacDonald, sisters Dorothy Vickerson, Nora Taliento, Margaret Murdock, Rosemary Petrin, brothers, Frank MacDonald, Edward MacDonald and Allen MacDonald.

A family viewing will be held at 4:00PM, Saturday February 23,2019, at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Avenue, Old Orchard Beach. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the spring at the family lot in Scarborough Memorial Cemetery, Scarborough.
