John Roy “J.R.” Stevens, Jr., age 96, of Hanson, KY passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the West Kentucky Veterans Center. Mr. Stevens was born on June 4, 1922 in Caldwell County to the late John Roy Stevens, Sr. and Nina Blackburn Stevens. He was a 1940 graduate of Dawson Springs High School, and he served his country during WWII as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corp.

He owned and operated Stevens Trucking for many years and he retired as a farmer. He was a lifetime member of the… Read More » American Legion and the Lee Wilson Stevens VFW Post. He was a member of the Order of the Kentucky Colonels, and was very honored to have been distinguished in the past as a Hopkins County Farmer of the Year.

He was a member of the Suthards Christian Church. Mr. Stevens is survived by a daughter and son-in-law ~ Lois Ann (Billy) Cummings of Madisonville, KY, a son and daughter-in-law ~ James Lee (Kaye) Stevens of Madisonville, KY, two grandchildren ~ John (Kay) Stevens of Louisville, KY and Ann Kaye Stevens of Lexington, KY. Preceding Mr.Stevens in death are his parents, his wife ~ Katherine Lois Markham Stevens (departed 8-25-1999), and three Brothers ~ James Stevens, Lee Wilson Stevens, and J. B. Stevens.

Visitation for Mr. John Roy “J. R.” Stevens, Jr. will be Friday, June 15, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the funeral hour at 11:00 AM. His service will be officiated by Chaplain Sam Beeny and Mike Duncan.

Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Hopkins County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers include Larry Duncan, Jimmy Pride, Donald Barnett, Mike Barnett, Robert Poole, and Rafe Crook. Honorary Pallbearers include Tommy Terry, Eddie Kembel, Chris Smiley, and Mike Stevens.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of donations to be made to: West Kentucky Veterans Center Activity Fund, 926 Veterans Way, Hanson, KY 42413, and Suthards Christian Church, 1916 Suthards Church Rd. , Madisonville, KY 42431. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
