Obituary for John Valentine John Thomas Valentine, Jr. passed away October 11, 2018 in Rexburg, Idaho surrounded by his only daughter, Iris Valentine Garner, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 3, 1931. John was the seventh child of seven children born to Carrie Della Tucker Valentine and John Thomas Valentine, Sr
He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters; wife and mother of his six children, Maxine Milsted; and five sisters, Garnetta, Vella, Clara, Lois and Iris. He is survived by his sister, Betty Hill, his daughter, Iris Valentine Garner (Mark Garner) of Rexburg, Idaho; and his five sons, John Thomas Valentine, III of Astor, Florida; Harold Wayne Valentine (Helena) of Springhill, Florida; Raymond Keith Valentine (Joycelyn) of Interlachen, Florida; Kevin Legrand Valentine of Madison, Florida and Matthew William Valentine (Jamie) of Winterhaven, Florida along with twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. John served honorably in the Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron in the U.S. Navy for 5 years.
He then worked as ranch foreman for 15 years with his uncle, W.W. “Woody” Tilton’s Circle Bar Ranch. Following his time at the ranch, John worked 25 years with Vestal Laboratories in Clearwater, Florida. John was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and received his Silver Beaver Award.
He, along with his youngest son, Matthew, attended many National Scout Jamborees together. John was a member of many service organizations in his lifetime. He was an active lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served diligently in many church positions during his lifetime.
There are many relatives and friends who blessed his life as he blessed theirs. Visitation and viewing will be held at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1414 Husson Ave. in Palatka.
Interment with military honors will follow at 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 N. Main St. in Jacksonville, FL. The family expresses their love and appreciation for all the kindness rendered during this period of time.
