John William Rhodes, 91, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday, June 30th, at his residence. Born in Palo Alto, March 15, 1927, he was a son of the late James W. & Maude (Lutz) Rhodes. On July 5, 1952, he married the love of his life, Reta I. (Moyer) Rhodes at Christ Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven.

They shared 62 loving years of marriage together and were blessed with four beautiful daughters. Reta preceded John in death on December 2, 2014. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also preceded in death by nine siblings: Vida, James, Ellen,Robert, William, Wallace, Carl, Ruth and Janet.

John was a graduate of Orwigsburg High School, and served in the Merchant Marines during WW II. He worked as a transportation dispatcher for the Reading Railroad & The Mason Dixon Lines. John belonged to the Schuylkill Lodge #138 Free & Accepted Masons.

He is survived by four daughters: Nancy Ellen Johnson, wife of Mike, York, Jane Rhodes-Williams, wife of Willie, Kutztown, Cindy Strouphauer, wife of Richard, Auburn, & Samantha Rhodes, Schuylkill Haven, four grandchildren: Michael Johnson, John & Grace Rhodes-Williams, and Ashley Strouphauer, three sisters: Alice, Frances, & Judith, and nieces & nephews. Services & interment will be privately held at the family’s convenience. At the family’s request, donations in John’s memory may be forwarded to the Shriners Hospitals for Children; Attn: Office of Development; 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr.; Tampa, FL 33607.
