Richard C. Stabingas, 70, of Schuylkill Haven, PA, passed away Thursday, September 13th. Born in Pottsville, PA on January 26, 1948, he was a son of the late George & Nellie (Brillius) Stabingas. In addition to his parents, Richard is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert G. Stabingas, and nephew, Todd R. Stabingas.

He was the loving husband of Denise P. (Mangione) Stabingas, with whom he shared 39 years of marriage as well as father to his beloved girls and “Coach” to his grandson. Richard was a graduate of St. Clair High School, Class of 1965. He received his BS from East Stroudsburg University and MS from Murray State University.

He received his principal’s certificate after additional gradwork at Penn State, Rider, and Glassboro Universities. Years later, Richard graduated from McAllister Institute’s Mortuary Sciences program and joined his brother in business. He was employed as a math teacher in Chattam, NJ, Maple Shade, NJ, and the Blue Mountain High School.

Richard later co-owned and operated Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven. He was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus and was a member and past president of Schuylkill Haven Rotary Club.

Richard was a former member of the Schuylkill Haven School Board, and was a social member of the East Ward Social Club and American Legion Post #38, both in Schuylkill Haven. He enjoyed coaching golf, football, and basketball to which he devoted many years of his life. In addition to his wife, Richard is also survived by two daughters: Kimberly Stabingas Finn & husband, Timothy, Apex, NC, Dr. Kristen C. Stabingas, Pittsburgh, PA, and a grandson, Brogan Richard Finn, three sisters, Sandra Stabingas Gutowski, & Doris Stabingas, both of St. Augustine, FL, & Marian Herb, Chestertown, MD, as well as nieces & nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 20th, with Rev. Msgr. Edward S. Zemanik officiating.

A visitation will be held in the church’s chapel from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will immediately follow mass at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation 101 North Centre Street Pottsville, PA 17901 or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, C/O Donation Processing, P O Box 5014, Hagerstown MD 21741-5014.
