Obituary for Johni Dunia COHOES – Johni Dunia, 17, entered into eternal life on Friday, November 16, 2018. Johni was born in Goma, North Kivu, Congo, Africa on July 13, 2001 and was the son and third child of Marceline Dunia and the late William Bagaya. He came to this country as a child from South Africa and resided in Springfield, MA and Albany before settling in Cohoes three years ago.
Johni had attended both Albany and Cohoes Public Schools and was currently was in his junior year at Albany High School. Johni enjoyed sports of all kinds and liked to watch television, especially movies. He enjoyed food and the times spent with his family and friends.
He is lovingly recalled as a person with a large and kind heart who never showed anger. He loved his family and was very dedicated to his mother and his brother and sisters. In addition to his mother, Johni is survived by his brother, Bonfils Dunia; his sisters, Jolie, Jessica and Joyce Dunia; his maternal grandmother, Marceline Mpala (late Jacques Dunia) of South Africa; his paternal grandparents, Kapanga Bagaya and Josephine Bagaya of Congo; his uncles and aunts, Butikima Kitomanwa of Chicopee, MA, Annick Dunia of Canada, Clovis Dunia of Congo, Africa, Donado Dunia, Henry Dunia, Fifi Dunia and Wivinne Dunia all of South Africa; his cousins, Andy, Kennedy, Jenna Rose and Junior Labani, Joshua, Anna Gloria, Meagan, Rachel, Lucy, Jacques, Serge, Gilbert and Chance Dunia as well as many other extended family and friends.
A funeral Mass for Johni will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:30 am in the Chapel+Cultural Center at Rensselaer, 2125 Burdett Avenue, Troy, by the Reverend Edward Kacerguis. The Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy. Friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Johni’s family on Saturday, prior to the Mass, from 9 am until 10:30 am.
Those who wish to remember Johni in a special way may make a donation to the Dunia Family, to be used in accordance with their wishes, in care of the Parker Bros. Memorial.
