Obituary for William Stephen Rentz MAPLEWOOD –William Stephen Rentz, 77, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday evening, November 6, 2018 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Maplewood on October 26, 1941, he was the son of the late Stephen and Tessie Czan Rentz. Bill was a graduate of Watervliet High School and Siena College where he received a BA in Economics.

Bill was employed by Montgomery Ward & Co. in Menands and following his marriage he was transferred to Chicago. He then worked for United Stationers in Chicago before being transferred to Texas and New Hampshire. He later owned Caryns Hallmark Store in Ft.

Worth, TX before returning to Maplewood in 2006. His favorite pastime was visiting Lake George with his family. Bill was a devoted member of St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church in Maplewood.

He was a faithful church-goer, attending all the services and educational classes and working tirelessly to support the Church and the Diocese. He is the beloved husband of 53 years of Patricia Piznar Rentz; devoted father of Michael W. Rentz (Cristy) of Ft. Worth, TX and Tamara A. (Robley) Rentz-Blackford of Marblehead, OH; proud grandfather of Mary Elizabeth Blackford and Eron Michael Rentz; brother of Joan (Eugene) Golowich of Amherst, MA.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Monday, November 12th at 10:00 am at St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Church, Maplewood with Father Peter Olsen officiating. Interment will follow in St. Tikhon’s Cemetery, South Canaan, PA at 3:00 pm.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday at St. Basil’s Church prior to the service from 9-10 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either St. Basil’s Perpetual Cemetery Fund or St. Basil’s Church Restoration Fund, 6 Lansing Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189.
