Obituary for William J. “Bill” McLoughlin TROY – William J. McLoughlin, a current resident of Shaker Pointe at Carondelet and a long-time resident of Troy, passed unexpectedly from this life on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the age of 78. Born in Troy on October 9, 1940, Bill was the son of the late Earl and Helen (Casey) McLoughlin. He was educated in School 2; St. Peter’s Academy and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1958.

Bill furthered his education at Hudson Valley Community College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he earned a Masters degree in Business Administration. He later earned a Masters degree in Public Administration from Russell Sage College. Bill was an Army veteran and had served his country from 1961 until 1967.

He was employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for 36 years and retired in 1995 as Chief Transportation Project Manager. Several of Bill’s larger local projects included the construction of Interstate 787 and new roadways in Lake Placid for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Bill was a former member of the Troy Board of Education on which he served for 7 years and from 1972-1976 he was president.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 516 – Twin Rivers Council where he served as vice-president and oversaw activities in Rensselaer and Columbia counties. Bill also had served on the Albany Roman Catholic Diocesan Pastoral Council, which convened at LaSalle Institute in Troy and represented the Northern Rensselaer County Deanery under the Most Reverend Howard J. Hubbard, D.D. Bishop Emeritus of Albany and he was a current associate member of the Sisters of the Holy Names. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed woodworking, picture framing and cooking.

He loved his family and enjoyed the times spent with them both at home and at the family camp at Sacandaga Lake. Bill was a parishioner of the University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice at RPI and had formerly served as Trustee of the Rensselaer Newman Foundation. Bill was the much loved husband of Alice (Corr) McLoughlin to whom he was married on October 9, 1965 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.

Together they had enjoyed more than 53 years of marriage. He was the much loved father of Carrie McLoughlin Noll and her husband David of Colonie and William John McLoughlin, Jr. and his wife Ann of Troy; the cherished “Bop” of Patrick McLoughlin of Melrose and Casey Noll of Colonie; brother of Earl A. McLoughlin of Portland, Oregon and Ellen Hipp and her husband William of Carolina Shores, NC. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother John McLoughlin whose wife Margaret (Mardi) survives of Troy. Bill’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Richard T. Bauer III and his staff, the Eddy Visiting Nurses, especially Christine Kasianczuk, for the loving and dedicated care given to Bill and also to the Colonie EMS for their quick response and dedicated service. A funeral Mass for Bill will be celebrated by the Reverend Edward Kacerguis on Thursday at 10:30 am in the Chapel+Cultural Center at RPI, 2125 Burdett Avenue, Troy.

The Rite of Committal and interment will be held privately. Friends are invited to attend Bill’s Mass and may also visit with his family on Wednesday from 4 until 7 pm at the Chapel+Cultural Center at RPI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Unity House Deuteronomy Fund, 2431 Sixth Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 in memory of William J. McLoughlin.
