Obituary for Edward Robert “Ed” Springer III COHOES – Edward R. Springer, III, 54, formerly of Watervliet, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Troy on March 30, 1964, he is the beloved son of Edward R. and Patricia A. O’Neil Springer, Jr. Ed was a graduate of School 9 in Watervliet and Watervliet High School, class of 1982 where he played baseball. He was a US Army veteran serving in White Sands, New Mexico and Mannheim, Germany and remained in the Army Reserves until 1989.
He was a New York State Corrections Officer from 1995-2014 working in Sing Sing, Shawangunk and Greene Correctional Facilities. Ed was a member of the Mechanicville and Green Island American Legion, Knights of Columbus in Latham, Watervliet AOH and Grace Fellowship Church where he was a member of the Security Team and the Men’s Group. Ed loved his family and was a true family man.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf, camping at Deer Run Campground and was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. Survivors in addition to his parents include his beloved wife of 34 years, Pamela M. McClure Springer; his loving daughters, Michelle (Matthew) Michaud, Tanya Lewis and Franziska Bock; two adored grandsons, Judah Patrick Lewis and Mason Edward Michaud; five siblings, Robert (Christine) Springer, Kenneth (Heather) Springer, Kathy (John Cutting) Springer, Kimberly (Nick) Schultheis and Tara (Bill) Clairmont; five in-laws, Paul, Kevin and Mark McClure, Laurie (Joseph) Kennedy and Timothy Hatch. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Grace Fellowship Church, 20 Delatour Road, Watervliet (Latham) on Thursday from 4-7 pm followed by the funeral service at 7 pm. On Friday, a procession will form at 8:30 am at the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet to proceed to the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery for a 10 am committal service.
