Obituary for James F. “Cuttsie” Culliton WATERVLIET – James F. “Cuttsie” Culliton, 68, died peacefully Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born in Troy on April 22, 1950, he is the son of the late Thomas and Kathryn Foster Culliton. Jim was raised in the Port Schuyler section of Watervliet and graduated from St. Brigid’s School.
He was a 1968 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and a 1973 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh with a BS in Administrative Science. He was employed by the City of Watervliet Highway Department for two years before becoming a conductor with D&H Railway and later CP Rail from April 1976 to April 2010 when he retired. Cuttsie loved to socialize and spend time with his friends.
He was a proud member of the Watervliet AOH and the Watervliet Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Lake George and the late night campfires there. He was a NASCAR aficionado, NY Yankees fan, and loved to have impromptu jam sessions, with the harmonica being his instrument of choice.
He is the husband of Dianne M. Clements Culliton; father of Sarah Culliton-Ragone (Todd) of Troy and Zachary Culliton (Emily Holden-Culliton) of Rochester; stepfather of Ryan Matthews (Stephanie) of Ballston Spa; grandfather of Michael, Mario and Reese Ragone, Margaret and Jane Culliton; brother of John Culliton (Ellen) of Troy and the late Joan Rice; favorite pal to Chase-man, the great lap dog. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue (Rt. 32 South of Arsenal), Watervliet on Monday from 4-7 pm.
The funeral service will be held privately on Tuesday for the family. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mohawk & Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
