Obituary for Rita A. Corbett Watervliet- Rita A. Corbett, 77, of Watervliet, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Livingston, NY. Rita was born in Watervliet on October 9, 1941 and was a 1960 graduate of Catholic Central High School. She went on to further her education at Oneonta State College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education.

Rita then educated local youth at many catholic schools, including as a teacher at St. Patrick’s School in Watervliet and as a religious education teacher at Our Lady of Assumption in Latham. When not at work, Rita loved to take trips and see the world. Her travels brought her as far as Yugoslavia.

Rita was a devout catholic who dedicated her life to her faith and to the Blessed Mother Mary. Rita is survived by her siblings; James (Kathy) Corbett of Latham, Alice (late Leo) Fiacco of Watervliet, and Mary (Hank) Ruther of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as by several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; former Watervliet Fire Chief James J. Corbett and Mary Corbett, and by her sister Marge Mlock.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Rita in a special way may consider a donation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 2416 Seventh Ave.
