Obituary for Dean M. Holmes WATERVLIET – Dean Michael Holmes, 31, died suddenly, Sunday, January 6, 2019. Born in Albany on March 21, 1987, he is the beloved son of Rosemarie DiNardo Holmes of Watervliet and the late Donald J. Holmes and stepson of Edward Farrington. Dean was a 2005 graduate of Watervliet High School and was a team captain for the Watervliet Cannoneers varsity football team in his senior year playing defensive end and wearing #73 for the Cannoneers.

He later attended Hudson Valley Community College. He was employed by UPS, the Asphalt Doctor and worked with his brother Don as a photographer for Holmes Photo Imaging in Troy. For the past two years, he was employed by Silver Fox Salvage in Albany as a custom furniture craftsman.

Dean was a Green Bay Packer football fan, enjoyed woodworking, photography, hiking and camping at the Gilchrist Family Compound in Lake George. Dean was always very supportive and encouraging and his smile, laugh and spirit would light up a room when he entered. Dean was always optimistic and had a bright future ahead of him.

He fought a hard battle for a very long time. He is the loving brother of Donald (Sona) Holmes of Mechanicville and Douglas Holmes of Watervliet; proud uncle of Dominick Holmes; beloved nephew of Eugene DiNardo of Ravena, Mary Ann DiNardo of Mechanicville, Philly Gilchrist of Watervliet, Albert (Lisa) DiNardo, Jr. of Mechanicville, Debbie Perkins, Dale Holmes and Daniel Holmes all of Florida; dear friend of Melissa Karpowicz of Long Island; special cousin of Jacob and Bryant Gilchrist both of Watervliet, Geena and Nicholas DiNardo of Mechanicville, Rachel, Jacob, Dustin, Jamie and Elijah all of Florida. He is also survived by his “favorite lap dawg” Timber.

The funeral mass will be Thursday at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet with Rev. Donald Rutherford, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery, Lake George.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dean M. Holmes Memorial Fund, c/o Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY 12189.
