Obituary for Veronica Catherine “Vonnie” Quigley (O’Neill) WATERVLIET – Veronica Catherine “Vonnie” Quigley (O’Neill) passed away peacefully, at the age of 90, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family and her best dog Buddy, on October 4, 2018. Born in Albany on August 3, 1928 to the late Ambrose and Catherine O’Neill; she attended Cathedral School and graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1946. She was married to her devoted husband, the late Edward “Quig” Quigley for 30 years until his passing in 1979.

Vonnie worked for AT&T after high school until her children were born. Vonnie was a homemaker as well as a long time Albany County employee working for the Department of Aging where she proudly helped those in need. She enjoyed maintaining a beautiful home which she always surrounded by beautiful flowers, plants and delicious fresh vegetables.

She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed all things Irish. She was matron of a far-reaching Red Sox clan. Vonnie loved Christmas, turning her home into a Christmas Winter Wonder Land.

Vonnie was the devoted and loving mom of Michael (Eleanor) Quigley of Fremont, CA; Kathy (Frank) McGrouty of Watervliet; Kerry (Reed Thompson) Quigley of Winchester, MA; and the late Brian and Kevin Quigley. Vonnie was the proud gram of: Patrick (Rebecca) McGrouty, Meaghan (Charles) Castle, Kaleigh McGrouty, Molly (Ryan) McGrouty, Andrew Thompson and Brienne Thompson. She loved attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

She was “GG” great gram to Brian, Benjamin, Amelia, and Lucas who brought her so much joy. Vonnie was sister to the late Peggy (Robert) Reidy, the late Robert O’Neill and the late Ambrose (Mary) O’Neill; daughter-in-law to the late Joseph and Mary Ellen Quigley. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Vonnie’s family on Sunday, October 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Parker Bros. Memorial, located at 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. Funeral services, Monday, October 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the Parker Bros.

Memorial thence to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 25th Street and 7th Avenue. The Rite of Interment and committal will immediately follow the Mass at St. Agnes Cemetery In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Vonnie’s memory, to The Community Hospice at 310 South Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
