Jon Benjamin Oakleaf, 79, of Moline, entered eternal life on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial of cremains will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Jon was born on July 18, 1939, in Moline, to Joseph Benjamin Oakleaf and Janet Klein Rosenheim Oakleaf. He was educated at Moline schools and graduated from Moline Senior High School in 1957.

Jon graduated from Augustana College, Rock Island, in 1961 with a BA in English. Following his graduation, he worked with his father in the insurance business for several years. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1964 and served in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966 with the 24th Psychological Warfare Detachment in the Central highlands, Following his discharge from the Army he worked with his father in residential construction.

In 1969 he joined the staff of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, as Parish Assistant where he served for 33 years. He married Shirley Jean Anderson in Moline; they later divorced. On August 8, 1987, he married Jane Weaver Masek in Moline.

Jon enjoyed his association with a number of organizations in the area including the Moline Bicentennial Committee, Rock Island County Historical Society, The Riverside Cemetery Trust Fund Endowment Board, the Board of Friendship Manor, the Moline Jaycees, the Quad Cities Archeological Society and the WVIK Foundation Board. His interest included camping, cycling, local history, photography, small bore rifle competition, the study of and collection vintage American air guns for which he was recognized as an authority, and the study of genealogy, spending two summers in the tobacco root mountains in Montana and other natural sciences. Survivors include his wife, Jane; sister, Joanne Alber, Boulder, CO; and three nephews, Peter (Jenn) Alber, Denver, CO, Brad (Sarah) Alber, Denver, CO, and Michael Alber, Boulder, CO; two great nieces and three great nephews.
