OBITUARY Jonas Larry Gunter November 1, 1947 – September 18, 2018 Canton-Jonas Larry Gunter, 70, died on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Jonas was born in Haywood County to the late Coy Ray and Frances Massie Gunter. He enjoyed grouse hunting, fly fishing, and sitting on the front porch.

Most of all Jonas loved spending time with his family. Jonas was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, Jonas was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Swecker. Jonas is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Joyce Shuler Gunter; a son, Jonas Charles Gunter (Sandra); a daughter, Laura Ginger Thayer; brothers Johnny Gunter (Cheryl) and Jackie Gunter; grandchildren, Simon Gunter, Ashley Lee, Tiffany Lee, and Ricky Lee; one great-grandchild; and his hunting companion, Smoke. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, September 21, at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Putnam officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Cove Elementary School at 401 American Thread Road, Marion, NC 28752.
