Joseph L. Scripa, 88, of Syracuse, died Thurs. February 7, 2019. Heaven needed another poker player so Joe was called home.

He was born and raised in Syracuse by his parents, Joseph and Mary (Thompson) Scripa. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister, Rose Marie DeRosa. Those who knew Joe, knew of his love for his family, as well as the NY Yankees, NY Giants and most of all , playing poker with the “guys” at the I.A.A.C.

Club. Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shirley (Vassallo); two sons, Tony and Joseph (Mimi) Scripa; three daughters, Cindy Butler (Mike), Lynne Revette (Keith) and Kristi Butler (Frank); one granddaughter, Audra Schoch (Joe) and 4 grandsons, Jacob, Mikey, Timmy and Joey, whom he loved dearly. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9-11am in Blessed Sacrament Church with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11am.
