Joseph Lincoln Glazier, husband to the late Alice Glazier (Cromier), passed away July 9, 2018 after a short illness at the age of 87. He was born in Bristol, November 24, 1930 son of the late Wilfred and Bernadette (Noel) Glazier. Joe leaves behind a family that loved and cared for this tough but loving man including, a son, Fred Glazier & wife, Pamela Glazier of Bristol, a daughter, Michelle Brodin & Husband, David Brodin of Meriden, another son, Robert Glazier & Wife, Melissa Glazier of Enfield, a step-daughter, Leslie Szczepanski, Wife of the late Richard (Ski) Szczepanski of Thomaston and an “adopted” son, Scott Sample & wife, Mary Jane Sample of Bristol.
Joe was born in Bristol and lived all of his live in Bristol and Terryville. He also leaves behind 12 grandsons and one great granddaughter. Joe (or Linc to his real old friends) was what many would call an American hero.
A veteran of almost 3 years in the Korean War with the Army Corp of Engineers, Joe fought for our country with bravery and courage, taking on sniper fire and survived many battles and almost lost his feet to frostbite. He has been awarded several medals for his service. In his civilian years, Joe lived the true example of the Jack of all Trades.
There wasn’t much this incredible man couldn’t do. Some of his many talents included a floor installer for Stately Floors, a construction worker for Tomasso Brothers where he could operate almost every piece of big equipment imaginable from cranes and bulldozers to jack hammers and welders. Then for Savin Brothers Construction he was an asphalt plant operator on the 4th largest plant in the world at the time.
He finished his career at Pratt & Whitney as a maintenance man in their boiler room facility. This would have been more than enough of a career for most people, but not Joe! While doing these jobs, he also ran his own snow plowing business, Reliable Snow, for over 40 years!
He also had his own refrigeration business (J&J Refrigeration) for another 20 plus years. And during the construction downtimes in the winter he also worked on automobiles, specializing in corvettes for a local auto body shop. As a handyman around the house, he could also do framing, electrical work, plumbing and painting.
Anybody who asked for Joe’s help was always grateful and exhausted! Simply because he was always there for his family and friends when they need something done, but he expected you to help right along and he worked from sunup til sundown, out hustling many guys much younger than himself. He did find time occasionally to do some recreational activities including being a CB radio’r in the early days as a member of the Bell City Radio Club.
He was an avid deer hunter where as you would expect, he walked for miles and miles in the woods enjoying the peace and solitude. He loved to swim as well and was quite a good diver. He was also a big fan of car racing, especially Nascar.
Once he retired, “Pops” kept busy with fixing air conditioners and puttering around the house in Terryville where he took great pride in his yard. He also would do deliveries for Meals on Wheels several days a week. He loved to “hang out” at the body shop of P&T garage in Terryville and at his friend Scott’s garage on weekends with his family and friends.
When he moved back to Bristol he went daily to the Bristol Senior Center where he had many friends. He loved to go to breakfast on the weekends, and in his final years, when he lived in Terryville, at the Eagle’s Nest and then the last 5 years at Rodd’s in Bristol where everyone loved him and took real good care of him. Even though he was a man of few words, he truly appreciated hard work, and was very thankful to all the Doctors, Nurses, Heath Aids, Waitress’ and people who helped him live a surprisingly long fruitful live.
Joe will always be remembered as a Veteran who served his country with honor, a father with a strict but loving, guiding hand, and a true friend that would do anything for a friend or neighbor.
