Joseph was born on Thursday, January 3, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, to William Lewis Sanders Sr. and Hazel Christine Sanders. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, William Lewis Sanders Sr. and Hazel Christine Sanders; brothers, William Lewis Sanders Jr, and Steve Allen Sanders; and sister, Sheila Sanders.

Joseph is survived by his son, Joe Sanders; daughter, Angie Sanders; sister-in-law, Barbara Sanders; niece, Lora Greenwood; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
