Obituary for Mrs. Josephine S. (Zampardi) Carchedi UTICA – Mrs. Josephine S. (Zampardi) Carchedi, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born in Utica on September 28, 1934, daughter of the late Christy and Rose Mary (Perri) Zampardi. She was a graduate of Whitesboro Central High School, Class of 1952.

She continued her education at Utica College of Syracuse University where she earned her degree. On April 19, 1958, Josephine married the love of her life, Anthony L. Carchedi, with whom she shared 59 years until his passing on November 21, 2017. They were a devoted couple, and their love for each other was apparent not only to their children, but to all who knew them.

Upon their marriage, the couple moved to Rochester where Josephine was employed by the New York Telephone Company and worked there until the couple started their family. Several years later, the family moved back to Utica, where Josephine was a homemaker, caring for their children. In later years, Josephine worked for the Utica City School District until her retirement.

Josephine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who especially treasured the love of her grandchildren who greatly fulfilled her life. She was an incredible cook and baker and her kitchen always was filled with her signature dishes. The family always looked forward to her Sunday pasta dinners and delicious made-from- scratch desserts.

She welcomed her extended family and friends to her dinner table and happily shared her recipes with them. Josephine had a great artistic ability and loved to draw pictures for her family. She also was incredibly fond of books, movies, music and sports, and passed those passions along to her children and grandchildren.

Her lifelong dream of traveling to Hawaii, which she and Anthony fulfilled with two wonderful trips, gave her unforgettable memories. Josephine was a member of The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes for more than 50 years. She is survived by her children, twin daughters and their spouses, Barbara and Donald Laible, and Denise and Bryan Ransiear; and sons, Michael Carchedi, and J. Mark and Charisse Carchedi; and her grandchildren, Mark, and Katherine Laible; Steven Anthony Ransiear; Hayley, and Vincent Carchedi.

She also leaves her brother, Frank Zampardi; her aunt, Lavina Perri; several nieces, nephews, many cherished great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, especially acknowledging Francis Calaprice; and her beloved friend since childhood, Joan Witte. She was predeceased by her treasured goddaughter, Robin Christopher Perri. In keeping with Josephine’s wishes, the family honored and commemorated her life at a private gathering and private funeral services took place at the convenience of the family.
