Obituary for Juan M. Garcia Mr. Juan M. Garcia (Papa John) 85, joined his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 22, 2018 surrounded by his family at Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance in McAllen, TX. John was born on March 30, 1933 in Taft, TX to Clemente and Josefina (Morales) Garcia and was raised by Vicenta Garcia. Papa John dedicated a large part of his life to enrich youthful lives through coaching and serving as President of The International Little League of Corpus Christi.

He lived in Corpus Christi most of his life until he retired from the produce business. At age 59, Papa John was selfless in accepting his son’s invitation to build and expand the golf culture in the Rio Grande Valley through the impact of the Practice Tee Driving Range and Learning Center. Papa John helped build the Practice Tee from the ground up and managed it for over thirteen years.

It is at the Practice Tee, where John Garcia was given the nickname “Papa John” by Miguel Del Angel Jr. Papa John was a family man who enjoyed football, golf, travel, playing card games, and tending to his garden. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He only needed a few words to inject joy and laughter into any conversation.

His smile lit up every room he walked into. To the world he was Papa John, but to his family he was “Popo”. Effortlessly, he was a father figure to many and entered the hearts of everyone he met.

He was a fan of education – making it a point to attend every graduation ceremony, multiple sporting events, and school assemblies. Papa John was a gracious and church-going man, a supporter of friends and family. Motivated by faith, he led his family by example.

He was not one to speak a bad word about anyone or complain about anything. Juan Garcia, Papa John, and Popo all names for a wonderful husband, father and friend to all he met. John was preceded in death by his wife Petra Garcia, son Joel Garcia and sister Maria Gutierrez.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his siblings: Miguel Garcia, Minerva Lugo, Guadalupe Vargas, Clemente Garcia, Jose Luis Garcia, Janie Villareal; his children: Josephine Soliz (Edward), Norma Moore, and Juan “John” Garcia Jr. (Belinda); his grandchildren: Martisha Liefer (Anthony), John Edward Soliz, Tanya Wallace, Audra Moore, Brisa Leal (Edgar), Clarisa Garcia, JohnGlenn Garcia, Jarrel L. Moore, and Jarrel D. Moore; his great grandchildren: Maya Liefer, Brendan Liefer, Anthony Soliz, Darrian Wallace Jr., Petra Soliz, Dailon Wallace, Teagan Wallace, and Nathaniel Moore. His legacy will live on through the actions of love by his family and friends. Until, we all meet in the glory of our forever home with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
