June Elizabeth (Ring) Thompson, 94, of Cortland and formerly of Boardman and Conneaut passed away quietly into her Savior’s arms with her family around her singing “Amazing Grace”, a favorite hymn of hers at 7:00 PM March 25, 2019 She was born on June 29, 1924 in Conneaut, Ohio to Milton & Leonarda (Fox) Ring. She graduated from Rowe High School in 1942. June started out her college at Rio Grande but transferred to THE Ohio State University in 1951 where she graduated with a BS in Home Economics.
She married Gilbert J. Thompson, DVM on December 26, 1950. They had five children and stayed in Conneaut for about 15 years, then moved to Boardman, Ohio. Education of children was very important to June which led her into the teaching and World Book careers as well as in the tutoring of her kids and grandkids, also some inner-city children.
She was a loving and caring mom and grandma. Another passion was gardening. She eventually became a Master Gardener.
She worked at Walmart in the plant department. More passions of June’s included sewing and camping. Whenever she needed a major break from all of these activities, she felt compelled to go to “the cabin” and relax in the woods.
Her family has many fun memories of the cabin with her. She loved Jesus and would sing hymns while doing things around the house. She was involved in evangelistic activities as a youth, and said more recently how she wanted to be sure that all of her kids and grandkids knew Him too.
She belonged to First Baptist Church of Kingsville when she lived in Kingsville. Before that she was a member of First Covenant Church in Boardman. She was actively involved as long as she was able.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Charles) Teleha, Amy (Thomas) Calladine, Maxwell (Debra) Thompson, Mark (Rosemarie) Thompson and Jay (Martha) Thompson as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Bess Koval, Rachel (James) Speer and her brother Richard (Joan) Ring June was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Mary Bunnell, Jane Rhodes, and her brothers Paul, Milton, and Loren Ring.
