On September 8, 2018, Kaia Mae Sura was called home so that her glorious light can shine in heaven forever. She was in the arms of her parents, and surrounded by her family, and her PICU family. Born on April 14, 2017, her tenacity, strength, and fierce spirit inspired people to make every moment matter.

Her will to live sparked an interactive Facebook page. “KAIA STRONG” united people around the country in hope and prayer. This movement of love and faith is Kaia Mae’s legacy.

She received a lifetime of love from her family, the dedicated team of doctors and nurses in the PICU at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, volunteers, friends, prayer groups, congregations, and people she had never met. The Sura family is eternally grateful for the support they received.

They hope the memory of their beautiful girl will encourage random acts of kindness and goodwill in her honor. Kaia loved holding her fuzzy teddy bear, snuggling with her family, hearing her favorite books read aloud, and listening to acoustic guitar music. Songs and memories will fill our hearts with the joy and courage that embodied her.

Kaia was born on Good Friday, and returned to heaven on the Blessed Mother’s birthday to be an angel in the eternal kingdom of God. She is survived by her parents Jackie and Paul Sura, and her big sister Maile, of Wickliffe, Ohio; grandparents David and Rose Morticelli of Marlborough, Massachusetts; uncle Daniel Morticelli; and aunt Anna Morticelli of Marlborough, Massachusetts; and aunt Maggie Gibson and family of Mentor, Ohio; and many other family members and friends across the United States. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday September 14, 2018 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 37932 Euclid Ave.

, Willoughby, Ohio on Thursday Sept. 13, 2018 from 3-5 & 6-8 PM. Kaia’s parents are encouraging those attending to wear purple in her honor.
