On the evening of January 27, 2019, one day after her 25th birthday, Kalyn left this earth as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Kalyn was born in Muskegon on January 26, 1994, and was the only child of Thomas T. Cole and Barbara J. Spencer. Kalyn was also loved by her stepmom, Jeannie Cole, and her half sisters, Sophie and Bella Cole.

She attended Newaygo Elementary and moved to Covert, MI the summer before fifth grade. She was a proud graduate of Covert High School and thought of Covert as her home. Kalyn’s pride and joy was her six-year-old daughter Brooklyn.

She loved being a mom, and her main purpose in life was to ensure Brooklyn’s success and happiness. She also truly enjoyed being a server – she enjoyed meeting people and developed many loyal “regulars” along the way. Even though Kalyn had not found her niche yet, she touched so many lives.

She had a silly, whimsical side, as demonstrated by her love of pugs and owls. She was also an amazing listener and a thoughtful, fiercely loyal friend. Her time with us was far too brief, but she shone brightly and lived life her way.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother – Rose Ann Howard Kalyn is survived by her daughter – Brooklyn Cole, parents – Tom (Jeannie) Cole and Barbara Spencer, siblings – Sophie and Bella Cole, grandparents – Ted and Karen Cole, Warren Howard, Larry and Judy Gray, and Thomas and Lynne Spencer, and aunts and uncles – Rick and Kari Cole, Robin and John Swanson, Kim and Guy Gramzow, and John Spencer Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Memorial services will follow visitation at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kalyn’s memory to Brooklyn’s 529 College Savings account, started by Tom and Jeannie Cole.
