Obituary for Katherine (Kat) Suzanne Champagne Kat (Katherine) Suzanne (Kelley) Champagne passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018 in Saginaw at the Covenant Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving son and several close friends. Kat was born to Jon and Belinda (Weeks) Kelley at the Air Force Military Hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany on September 20, 1970.

After returning to the United States her parents divorced. Her mother eventually married Robert Ross and together they raised Kat in Saginaw. Kat also lived with her aunt and uncle, Camille and Michael Hawks, for several years in Asheville, NC where she attended Asheville High School.

Kat married Kevin Michael Champagne, of Quanicassee, on July 7, 2007 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bay City. Kevin preceded Kat in death on July 16, 2014. They had one child.

Kat studied Interior Design at Delta College and owned Champagne and Rainbows in Saginaw. She was an active member of Perceptions and fought diligently for the rights, acceptance and equality of the LGBTQ+/SOGIE community. Kat was passionate about the LGBTQ+/SOGIE community.

She loved her son, Jamie, and fought for a world where we can be loved and accepted for who we are. She also had an avid passion for politics, design, and was a wonderful cook. Kat is survived by her son, Jamie; mother, Belinda Ross; step brother and girlfriend, Daniel Wagle and Tracey Swift; aunts and uncles, Michael and Camille Hawks of Asheville, NC, Bob Torka of Lansing, William and Terry Weeks of Bay Port and Gary and Caroline Maday of Midland; several cousins, and a village of close friends.

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her grandparents, William and Frances Weeks; stepfather, Robert Ross; aunt, Willow Torka and cousin Robert Torka. A private commitment at the Roselawn Cemetery has already taken place. A celebration of Kat’s life will take place 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 4, 2018 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 815 N. Grant St., Bay City, Michigan with Rev.

Sue Rich officiating. There will be luncheon following the service at Trinity Episcopal Church. In honor of Kat and her annual Pi(e) Party, we request that you bring a pie to share.

It can be a sweet or savory pie, or you can bring your favorite dish to pass. If you’re unable to bring a dish, then just show up with happy memories and stories of Kat. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial to the family.
