Obituary for Kathryn Lavonne Augustine Kathryn Lavonne Augustine, 74, of Goodhue, died unexpectedly, Monday, December 10, 2018, at her home. She was born September 11, 1944, in Red Wing, to Henry and Lydia (Hinsch) Borgschatz and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1962. She went on to attend Bethany Lutheran College, graduating in 1964 and the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1966.

For two years, she taught elementary school in Crete, Illinois before returning to Minnesota, where she taught in Rochester and Goodhue Public Schools and was a frequent substitute teacher at St. John’s Goodhue and Immanuel Lutheran Schools. On July 5, 1969, she was united in marriage to John F. Augustine at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Kathy was a homemaker, helped on the farm feeding calves and had worked at Hughes Shoes in Red Wing and volunteered at Wise Penny and Goodhue Area Historical Society.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, where she sang in the church choir and was active in the Ladies’ Aid, AAL/Thrivent and Jesus Cares. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling and baking chocolate chip cookies. She is survived by her husband, John, of 49 years; sons, Rev.

Philipp (Kimberly) Augustine of Plainview, Nathan (Jennifer) Augustine of LeRoy and David Augustine of North Mankato; grandchildren, John (Brittany), Aaron, Kayla, Anna, Olivia, Caleb and Mykaela; brother, Lyle (Jean) Borgschatz of Wanamingo and sister, Irene Swenson of Zumbrota; sisters-in-law, Judy Borgschatz of Rochester and Marcy Borgschatz of Winona and a brother-in-law, Glenn (Jo Ellen) Augustine of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ardelle; two brothers, Ralph and David; brother-in-law, Dennis Swenson and a sister-in-law, Jean Augustine. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Goodhue with Rev.

Kurt Hagen officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
