Mrs. Katie (Sue) Barrett, 78, of Whiteville died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Lower Cape FearHospice & Lifecare Center, Whiteville. She was born September 13, 1940 in Columbus County, the daughter of the late Shepherd D. Black and Mary Dillard Black. She was employed with the Whiteville Police Department for thirty years until her retirement in 2010.

She continued to work part-time until 2018. She is survived by two sons, Oden Lee Barrett, Jr. and John Eldridge Barrett both of Whitevile; three daughters, Ronda Lynn Milligan of Clarendon, Peggy Barrett Price of Wilmington, Vickie Leigh Barrett; sisters, Vina Clifton of Virginia Beach, VA, Helen Bass Jordan and husband, Bobby of Hallsboro, Terry Lovette and husband, Dennis of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Rebecca Herring, Leighangel Butler, Jay Barrett, Elizabeth Barrett, Izaya Barrett, Gracie Barrett; great grandchildren, Daniel Canonico and Elinora Barrett. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Joshua Alan Barrett, sisters, Minnie Caison, Ruth White and a brother, Frank Black.

Her funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Peacock Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Terry Green. Burial will be in Lake Waccamaw Hillcrest Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends 1:00 – 3:00 pm Sunday prior to her service at Peacock Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472 and The Caring House, 2625 Pickett Road, Durham, NC. 27705.
