Boardman- Kenneth E. Brickley, 88, died early Wednesday morning, February 20, 2019 at Assumption Village. Kenneth, affectionately known as “Friendly Ken,” was born July 2, 1930 in Bluffton, IN, a son of Freeman and Mae (Betts) Brickley. Raised in Indiana, he was a graduate of Huntington High School.

In 1951, he continued the family tradition of working in the railroad industry and took a position with Erie Railroad, which later became Conrail. Throughout his 40 year career, his promotions took him to Indiana, New York, Ohio, and New Jersey. In 1990, Mr. Brickely retired at the age of 60 with the title of Master Mechanic and returned to Ohio after retirement.

He was a United States Navy Reserve Veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge #483 in Huntington, Indiana. He was a 50 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon, elder and member of its choir. In his free time, he enjoyed doing yard work, amateur woodworking, visiting with family and friends, and golfing.

His wife the former, Gretchen E. Carter, whom he married April 14, 1951, preceded him in death on January 23, 2018. He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Russell) DiSibio of Boardman and Ann (David) Booth of Boardman; two sons, David Brickley of Boardman and Robert (Lisa) Brickley of Gainesville, GA; thirteen grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Brickley, Mandy Brickley, Marc Brickley, Damon Brickley, Jamie (Jaclyn) DiSibio, Ryan DiSibio, Adam (Ava) DiSibio, Mallory (Andy) Thounhurst, Erin (Blake) Bullard, Taylor Brickley, Sarah Booth, Emily Booth, Alex Booth; ten great-grandchildren, Carter and Jackson Brickley, Sydney, Brooks, and Tessa DiSibio, Elise DiSibio, Brantley and Bryson Thounhurst, and Adara Bullard; and two nephews, Larry (Peg) Handwork of Indiana and Ronald Handwork of Florida. In addition to his parents and wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mabel Handwork, Toby DeWalt, Vandetta Fuller; three brothers, Carl Fuller, Donald Fuller, and Leslie Grove; and a nephew, Roger Handwork.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 12-1:15 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where a memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Memorial tributes can take the form of contributions in Mr. Brickley’s name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman, OH 44512. The family would like to thank his caregiver, Michelle Harris and the staff of Assumption Village for the wonderful care they gave to Ken. Arrangements are being handled by the Davis-Becker Funeral Home.
