Kimberly Jo Gibbons March 26, 1966 – February 28, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Kimberly Jo Gibbons, 52, of rural Columbia City died at 2:37 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at her home. She was born March 26, 1966 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Judy A. (Stahly) Daugherty. Her formative years were spent in the Fort Wayne area where she graduated from North Side High School.

She earned an associate’s degree in Medical Coding and a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University. On June 9, 2009 she was united in marriage to Billy Jay Gibbons. They made their home in Fort Wayne before moving to the Columbia City area 2 years ago.

A woman of faith, she loved people, especially her children and grandchildren. Always lighthearted, she enjoyed playing jokes on her family and friends. She was known to be a good listener, and her children and friends often sought her advice.

She loved crafting, crochet, and painting, particularly with oils and watercolors. She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Billy, a son, Devin W. Murtaugh, Larwill, a daughter, Nicole M. (Matthew) Reed, South Whitley, step-daughters, Amber D. Pitts, Florida, Paige Ehret, Kendallville, and Shannon M. Bain, Louisiana; grandchildren, Kristian Murtaugh, Fort Wayne, Braytin Scrimpsher, Fort Wayne, Serenity Murtaugh, Fort Wayne; a brother, Tony Daugherty, Fort Wayne, and a sister, Mia Smith, New Haven. A memorial service is 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Rape Crisis Center, Fort Wayne.
