Obituary for Kirk Owen Gerdes Kirk Owen Gerdes of Lewisville, Texas, passed away April 7, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in Ackley, Iowa. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for the family locally.

He was born September 19, 1958 in Grundy Center, IA to Richard and Darlene Gerdes. Kirk grew up on “The Farm” near Ackley, IA. He graduated from Ackley Geneva High School in 1977 where he was involved in wrestling and band.

He worked several years in Iowa before moving to Colorado, where he attended Pikes Peak College and University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. He studied accounting and business. His jobs took him to several states and after many successful years as a sales person in various industries, he made his way to Texas.

Kirk was a loving, caring son, brother, father and grandfather. He enjoyed working with his hands on home projects, spending time with family and golf. Kirk could be larger than life and could hold a room captive with his incredible wit, humor and charm.

He loved cats, was an avid tennis and squash player, and liked watching NASCAR, football and golf on TV. Always eager and happy to help anyone if they asked, no matter what the task. Kirk Gerdes is survived by his daughter, Janae Augustine; grandson, Landon Augustine; twin brother, Kent Gerdes and his wife, Donna; sisters, Lisa Ubben and her husband, Randy and Gina Gerdes Ubben and her husband, Kent; seven nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and friends.
