Konstantinos G. “Gus” Moustakas age 82, of Clinton Township, was called to his Heavenly Home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on February 22, 2019. Beloved husband of the late Jacqueline Moustakas, blessed with over 49 years together. Devoted father of Joyce (Robert) Szwarc and George (Brenda) Moustakas.
Adored Papou of Genevie (Brock) Winchester, Alex Szwarc, Nicole and Nicholas Moustakas. Dear brother of Dimitris (Nikki) and Ioannis Moustakas. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Zoitza Moustakas.
Konstantinos immigrated to the United States from Greece in the mid-1950s with a determined spirit and willingness to live the American dream. He, along with his brother Johnny, fulfilled their goal in 1974 with the opening of Yonno’s Family Restaurant in Utica. It was a successful family business for 20 years that left a positive impact on the community.
Yonno’s was known for their homemade dishes and family atmosphere created by Gus and his brother. Gus was seen at the restaurant talking with customers that became like family and always offering ice cream to the younger patrons. Yes, sometimes even before dinner!
With humble generosity, he provided meals for people when there was the opportunity- no reason was necessary. It was his way of sharing goodness to his customers and creating the helping hand atmosphere at the restaurant. He took great pride in his family life.
Gus’ love and devotion for his wife and family were a joy in his life. If he wasn’t at work, he could always be found with Jackie and his kids, then later on, playing with his grandchildren. Always their biggest cheerleader, he enthusiastically attended his grandchildren’s track and cross country meets, baseball and softball games, theatre performances, and many dance recitals!
Of lasting importance to his family is the reverence that Gus had for God and the hope of being with his love, Jackie, again in Heaven. Worshipping at his church and saying “let’s make prayers” with a thick Greek accent, will be among treasured memories. He shared his enjoyment of long daily walks, at places like George George Park when the weather permitted, and indoors at Lowe’s when the weather did not cooperate with him.
He established a reputation among fellow walkers for his rapid walking pace and friendly wave. He always shared stories with his family of what he experienced on any given walk. Funeral mass Wednesday 10:00 a.m. (instate 9:30 a.m.) at St. Thecla Catholic Church (36650 Little Mack Ave.
