Larry Dale Payne April 05, 1938 – March 16, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Larry Dale Payne Sr., lifelong resident of Loudoun County, was born in Round Hill, Va. , on April 5, 1938 to A.D. and Helen Payne. He passed away at his home in Lovettsville, Va.

, on March 16, 2019, at 80 years old. Larry enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in September 1954, and was honorably discharged in September 1957 — the same year he graduated from Loudoun County High School. He then joined the Air Force in 1958, serving in Spain until he was honorably discharged as Airman First Class in 1962.

He returned to Loudoun County that same year with his wife and daughter to start dairy farming, first in Philomont and later in Purcellville. During that time, he also served as a firefighter at Fort Belvoir and fire chief for the Philomont Volunteer Fire Department. An active member of the American Legion Post 0293, Purcellville, Va.

, the 29th Division Association, and The Sons of Confederate Veterans Clinton Hatcher Camp No. 21 for many years, Larry was a dedicated and proud veteran. Larry also was a Freemason and a member of the Loudoun Golf and Country Club.

During the ’70s and ’80s, he ran Wayside — where many friendships were formed — in Hamilton, Va. , with his wife. A lifelong athlete, Larry played football in high school, was the captain of Wayside’s softball and volleyball teams, and participated in many golf tournaments.

Later, he worked as a custodian for Loudoun County Public Schools and retired after 15 years. In retirement, he often traveled the country and enjoyed watching the Washington Nationals, Redskins, and NASCAR. Predeceased by his eldest brother Alton Dewees Payne Jr. (Buddy), Larry is survived by his wife, Margarita; brother Wallace and wife Marie; brother Ron; children Vicky, Larry Dale Jr., Cristy, Greg and Katrina; granddaughter Catie; and three nieces, and greatly missed by many.
