Obituary for Larry Murphy Larry Jay Murphy, 68, a lifelong area resident passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his home in Wingdale, NY. Larry was a tree surgeon for Asplunda Tree Service in White Plains, NY. Born on March 25, 1950 in Sharon, CT he was the son of the late Hebron and Viola (Williams) Murphy.
Larry proudly served in the US Army during Vietnam. On March 25, 1981 in Wassaic, NY he married Clarice McPherson who survives at home. Larry was a 44-year life member of the Wassaic Fire Department.
Within the Wassaic Fire Department, Larry served as a former lieutenant and a member of the Board of Directors. He was also a former Amenia Monarch and played in the Millerton Soft Ball League. For 35 years, he was assistant director of Toys -for-Tots Mag 49 in Newburgh, NY.
Larry was also a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stormville, NY. In addition to his loving wife, Larry is survived by his children, Michael Bowser and his companion, Tracy Paradis, of MA, Johnna McPherson-Murphy of Wingdale, and Lisa Bowser of NC; two brothers, William C. Murphy of FL, Patrick Murphy of Hudson, NY and a sister, Shirley Vazquez of Dover Plains, NY.
He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Murphy was predeceased by two sons, Lawrence and Lionel Bowser; a daughter, Juanita Allen and a sister, Daisy Savoy. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at the Mt.
Zion Baptist Church, 10 S Green Haven Rd, Stormville, NY. The Wassaic Fire Department will conduct firematic services at 6 p.m. followed by a memorial service with Rev. Walter R. Hall officiating.
