Obituary for Larry Zimmerman Larry Wayne Zimmerman, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2018, after a courageous battle with illness. Born December 22, 1940 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Lawrence Arthur and Lola Mae Ratliff Zimmerman. Larry was a devoted husband to Irene Peeler Zimmerman for 56 years, loving father to Jeffery Zimmerman (Anita) of Campobello, SC, Janet Porter (Richie) of Timmonsville, SC, and Susan Borkowski (Terry) of Moore, SC, Poppa to Cameron Porter (Sara), Chase Porter, Abby Zimmerman, Tiffany Borkowski, Allison Borkowski and Matthew Borkowski.
He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and attended Spartanburg Junior College. He worked for Clinchfield Railroad for 21 years. He was an active member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church where he enjoyed serving as an usher and greeter.
He was also a member of Woodmen of the World. Some of the many hobbies he enjoyed included filming, photography, traveling, gardening, fishing, collecting model cars, and following the Clemson Tigers. He adored spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the medical staffs of Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Gibbs Cancer Center, and White Oak at North Grove. We would also like to thank all the family and friends who showed their love and support during this difficult time. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, April 16, 2018 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Cedar Spring Baptist Church, 140 Cedar Spring Place, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Todd Lowe. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
