Obituary for LaVern A DeBord LaVern DeBord, 86 Kearney resident LaVern A. DeBord, 86, of Kearney died Friday, September 14, 2018 at CHI St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. A Graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Kearney Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #52, VFW Post #759 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Honors Team.

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Monday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Condolences may be shared online at www.

osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. LaVern Allan DeBord was born November 18, 1931 in Palmer, NE to Floyd and Zella (Nicholas) DeBord.

He grew up on several different farms and loved to ride his Clydesdale horse to school. He received his education from Cozad High School. LaVern served in the U.S. Army receiving his honorable discharge in September of 1951.

On September 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Linda Hawthorne in Palmer, NE. The couple made their home in Kearney where LaVern was an electrician. LaVern was a longtime member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and the American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Linda DeBord of Kearney; sons Allan DeBord of Leigh, NE, Terry DeBord and wife Kris of Kearney, Mark DeBord and wife Lisa of North Platte, Scott DeBord and wife Rachelle of Blair, NE; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sisters Peggy Toedtemeir and Phyllis Frye and her husband Jack; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and William DeBord and his son Brad DeBord.
