LaVerne Luster, age 96, of Edwardsville, passed away at 5:52 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019, at her residence. She was born October 6, 1922, in Taylorville, Illinois the daughter of the late John & Flossie (Allen) Groves. LaVerne married he husband of 70 years, the late Jack A. Luster, October 11, 1942, in St. Louis.

Jack preceded her in death on June 5, 2013. She is survived by one son, Scott Luster & wife Phyllis of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Mark Luster & wife Allison of Chicago, Rhys Luster & Christy Luster both of St. Louis; a great grandson, Rowan Luster; two sisters, Kathy Shepherd of Decatur, Illinois, Sharon Taylor and husband Jim of Forsyth, Illinois. LaVerne was preceded in death by a son Rick Luster; a brother, Jack Groves; and two sisters, Phyllis Hunter and Norma Walker.

LaVerne was a member of many bridge clubs in the area and had the distinction of being a Master Bridge player. She was also the founding member of the Who’s New & The Cosmopolitan Supper Clubs of Edwardsville, and was a past member of the Edwardsville Junior Service Club. She will be cremated according to her wishes and a private graveside service will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville at a later date.
