Leah Nicole Russell, 19, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018. She was born July 17, 1999 in Rowan County, NC to the late Sandy Russell Hughes. Leah was a 2017 graduate of East Rowan High School.

She enjoyed theatre, drama, and participated in the East Rowan Broadway Reviews. Leah worked as an assistant preschool teacher at Grace Academy and was a crew member at Arby’s in Salisbury. She was attending Rowan Cabarrus Community College studying to be a teacher and attended Life Church of Salisbury.

In addition to her mother, Leah was preceded in death by her grandparents, Larry Eugene Russell and Marcia Lowder Russell. Leah is survived by her godparents, Misty and Thomas Goodman, of Salisbury; three brothers, Avery Barbee, Colby Goodman, and Camden Goodman; Uncle, Shane Russell and wife Felicia Dunn; Aunt, Brandi “Kristi” Boger; Nana, Rhonda Morgan; father figure, Mark Correll; honorary grandparents, Rodney and Terri McDaniel; Best friend, O’Shannus Wood; and many other family and friends. The family will greet friends and relatives on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC.

The service will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Grace Bible Church with Pastor Joey Phillips and Pastor Christopher Shelton officiating. Memorials may be made to Grace Academy at Grace Bible Church, 6725 Hwy 152 E. Rockwell, NC 28138 for the Leah Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Powles Staton Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the Russell family.
