Lee’s Obituary Lee Franklin Swails, 84, passed away at his home in Wauchula, Florida, on Monday, May 28, 2019. Lee was born in Wauchula in 1935 and lived here until his passing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and, after working at Hardee Motor Company for 18 years, he opened and operated “Lee’s Garage” in 1978 until he retired in 1993.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Lee enjoyed spending time with his family and friends,spoiling grand and great grandchildren, fishing, dancing, working on cars, and was always ready for a good meal. He always planted a vegetable garden and shared what it produced.

He enjoyed working in his yard, working on his lawnmower and tinkering on anything that had a motor. Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Theda “Pete” Swails, son, Michael Lewis Swails, his parents, Lewis Benjamin and Mamie Swails, brothers, Buddy, John and James Swails, sisters, Vianna Gray, Sarah Harris, Lanie Morris, Melissa Poncier, Matteline Grimsley, Melba Brown , and Estelle Crawford. He is survived by one sister, Virginia Dierker, daughter, Beverly (Jeffrey) Cornelius, grandson, Jacob Lee (Laurel) Cornelius, granddaughter, Miranda (Phil) Leyshon, great grandsons, Weslee, Rigdon, Griffin Cornelius, Thomas Leyshon and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Friday, May 31, 2019, from 4:00-6:00 PM, at Ponger Kays Grady Funeral Home, 205 N. 9th Ave. Wauchula, Flordia. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 9:30 AM,at Wauchula Cemetery with Reverend Jim Davis presiding.
