Leona made her journey to the Spirit World on October 26, 2018 at the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital in Pine Ridge, SD. Leona is survived by her son, William A. Vitalis; daughters, Margarette Vitalis and Carol Big Crow; daughter-in-law, Devonna Vitalis; grandsons, Martin (Rachel) Zephier, Anthony (Tessa) Whalen, Sr., Eric Anduja, Francis Big Crow, William Jaye Vitalis, Lester Vitalis, Quentin (Alisha) Vitalis, Attila Vitalis, Dezmond Vitalis, Kenai Vitalis, Arthur Jaye Vitalis, Steven Vitalis, Alban Vitalis, and Darrell Vitalis; granddaughters, Angela L. Anduja, Candace (George) Elliott, Bessie (Donnie) LeBeau, Nuee Vitalis, Laura (Corey) Big Crow, and Deanna Big Crow; nieces, Lynn Galligo, Frankee White Dress, Linda Yellow Horse, and Angie Roan Eagle; cousins, Everette Gabby Brewer and Elena Brewer Dameron (Thomas); 54 great grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Art W Vitalis; parents, Martin J and Margaret (Shangreaux) Galligo; sons, Arthur Wade Vitalis and Richard John Galligo; brothers, Louis Jay and John Wesley Galligo; sisters, Alice and Ethel Galligo and Pauline Merrival; granddaughter, Wendy Vitalis; great grandchildren, Joe Touchton and Travis Pourier; daughter-in-law, Iris Vitalis; son-in-laws, Francis “Jamie” Big Crow and Jimmy Anduja.
